Prayer

Holy Father, Your love, patience and perspective amaze me. Your righteousness shines. The earth is filled with your majesty.

I want to be like You. I want to serve. I want to show Your glory to those in darkness.

I ask for strength and wisdom. I will trust You to lead me. Please, I pray, show me the next step and I will trust you for whatever lies ahead.

Amen.

The Old Gilmer Place

What was repeatedly uttered as threat during periods of frustration, has finally occurred. The noise, clutter, trash, traffic, congestion, and distracting consumption of urban living has been shucked for a more rural lifestyle. We bought the Old Gilmer Place.

It's not really that old. It's not old at all. The house was built, by a guy named Gilmer, in 2005. But, in keeping with rural ways, it seems appropriate to introduce oneself as the new guy in town and add, "Yeah, we bought the old Gilmer place,"...because that is the way they say it in the country. It is a simple, modest house sitting on about 3 acres in rural Denton County. It is a place that seems to have a lot of potential...which is a positive spin on the fact that I'm already way behind on my chores.

Being born and raised an ignorant city-boy, I've got a feeling that future posts here might be amusing to the rest of you. Stay tuned for descriptions of lessons I'll be learning...and you can count on this...the hard way.

Annual Aggies and Friends Conservative Bash

Every year, in early June, a group of Aggies and Friends step out of their otherwise hectic lives and make a pilgrimage to a predetermined location to...well...bash. This year it was at a rented farm house about 20 minutes south of Brenham, Texas. Brenham is where Blue Bell ice cream is made and the location of their famed contented cows. After spending a few days surrounded by lush pastures, it is not hard to imagine contented cows.

Here are a few photos...

Why, yes...this is Texas!

A nice place for several families to bash for a long weekend.

For me, the bash always includes a bike ride. This year the start/finish was Fayetteville. The advertised Bicycle Classic was the following day.

This year, bash buddy Keith, ripped my legs apart.

The Bash always includes volleyball.

What says summer fun more than lime green toe nails?

It would be nice to have all these fine families living next door to me, but God knows best. I believe He might have put them in different cities so that His light is visible far and wide. I didn't take a picture of the traditional hymn singing on Friday night, but when I look forward to heaven...that is what I think of.
